Our Mission

Our mission is to give ex-racehorses a second chance in life.

As one of the leading organisations in this field, our work is vital to thoroughbred welfare. We provide a lifeline for horses who need time to adjust to a life after racing.

By supporting The Racehorse Sanctuary & Rehoming Centre, you will be directly helping us provide a life after racing through our rehabilitation, retraining and sanctuary programmes.

SUMMER 2025 – NEWS ROUND-UP

This summer, we have been delighted to host a couple of group visits to the Centre. Members from the All for One Racing – David Mennuisier Syndicates joined us on 10th July and Plumpton Racecourse on 29th July 2025.

Guests were welcomed by our Chief Operating Officer and Trustee, Catherine McIlwraith, who shared an insightful overview of the important work we do at Mulsey, including our re-homing programme. Yard Manager, Nigel Dunger, led a guided tour of the facilities, offering guests the chance to meet our resident horses.

STAKE-ACCLAIM AKA WILLIAM

I met William, formerly known as Stake-Acclaim, at the Racehorse Sanctuary fun day. It was love at first sight. My feelings were confirmed when Catherine mentioned that William’s favourite treat was extra strong mints, exactly what I happened to have in my bag! I came back to the Sanctuary for another meet and greet with William and had a little ride on him. He was quiet and chilled, which is exactly what I needed after being out of the saddle for five years. A couple of weeks later William returned home with me and joined Dashing-Chief, my 29-year-old ex-racehorse, who I had owned for 23 years.
